Who took the training wheels off My bike?

What you’ve got to realize about life can all be summed up in one line “You are the sum of your experiences”. That is no hard and fast manual for success outside of becoming a doctor, lawyer or professional of that sort. Sorry but the rest of us have to find our own way. If you want to become a business owner then again the path is skewed a little more because most people do not want the hassle of running a business. Going to school for business is one good step but that only teaches you how to work in a business and not necessarily run one or create one. Now I am sure that some people will disagree with this but to me it makes sense. By all means, go to school and get that education but if you really want to run and own a business there are no rules to becoming successful.
Gaining an education in Business is only the beginning. This is why true creativity in business is so rare. Most people don’t want to break the rules that they’ve known all their lives. By “breaking the rules” I am not talking about stealing, cheating or being a less then desirable person but what I do mean is that you make your own rules for achieving your own dreams by challenging conventionality. Too many times people get into thinking too much like everyone else and not doing their own thinking about things that matter to them. Instead, they’d rather become an accountant instead of following their dream of opening that Men’s Barber shop because most people take the path of least resistance when it comes to doing things. I myself am guilty of doing this in one way or another.
The first thing that you have to do is ask yourself this question… “Could I see myself running a business, warts and all?” TV shows that show people succeeding at their businesses seem to glorify how easy it is you run a business but what most people do not realize is that this is not the standard. You cannot compete with your neighbors because your goals are completely different. They want a pension, a big fat RRSP (or 401K if you will) and to retire early. You on the other hand want freedom to create your own business your own way, become wealthy or “Rich” if you will, have more time and the list goes on. See how different those views really are?
This is one of the observations that I’ve been able to make about employees and business owners. Perhaps you have a different view and if you do then feel free to share it here.
