Payment Based on Client Earnings – Paying Per Performance
January 3, 2007 – 3:36 pmThe idea of payment based on performance is nothing really new. I see a good deal of web-based positions that are pay per performance based popping up. But as with anything see it when you believe it and believe it when you see it. Recently I’ve been considering working with a past client that I’ve talked to for years now and I am thinking for taking the next step forward in becoming involved. What I realize is that most of the opportunities that are presented to potential candidates are based on pipe dreams and not facts. Some things that I looked at when considering working with this client are…
Creditability and Trustworthiness – Not all people that you meet in business are going to have your best intentions in mind and as such you need to develop a nose for sniffing out the B.S. (A skill that many claim to have and yet few are truly good at). There is a fine art of sorting out the people that are trying to use you from the ones that are genuinely interested in working with you. Both pitches sound equally as good.
Agreements – Getting things in writing is the key. I had to learn this one the hard way a few years back and it may be the best lesson I was ever taught even though I did not see it like that at the time. The point is that through drafting an agreement with the other party you can set your boundaries and they can set theirs and then you have a plan for working together so that no one feels cheated. There is nothing worse then the feeling you get when you know you’ve been ripped off.
Meeting Face to Face – You can learn a good deal about a person just by meeting them in person. A lot of times people feel more at ease with meeting someone face to face and getting to know them then simply meeting online. Anyone can do that!
When you are in doubt about a situation in business ask people. The information is not only readily available but if it helps you avoid the pitfalls others have experienced it is completely worth it. It is never too soon to begin learning so why not start today?
