OpenOffice.org for your Open Business
December 11, 2006 – 4:05 pm
As I wrote about yesterday if you are in business and even if you use computers recreationally you’ve probably come across open source applications like WordPress (like this Blog has used), Ubuntu (thanks Jason
) and the closed source products from such companies as Microsoft, Trend Micro, Adobe among others.
OpenOffice.org is by no means a new open source initiative but with that being said most people still have probably never heard of it. It was created by Sun Microsystems who developed the Java Programming Language among other technologies. If you use Microsoft Office you know how much money you are spending for upgrades, add-ons and more. Is there a solution to spending this amount of money or are you just looking for an alternative? If that’s the case then I highly suggest you check out OpenOffice.org.
OpenOffice.org is available for Windows, Solaris, Linux and even the Mac OS X platforms so there are no excuses in trying this suite of tools on your computer.
Programs in the OpenOffice.org include…
- Writer
- Calc
- Impress
- Base
When you are busy bootstrapping your business in the start up phase money is always a concern and in using OpenOffice.org gives you a good suite of tools. Give it a try
