Choosing an Affiliate Program

December 19, 2006 – 5:45 pm

As I wrote about a few days ago, I had decided to get some affiliate links on CommerceCubes.  Now comes the question which to choose?  Naturally I am interested in promoting Secure Delivery as an affiliate but I am also having a look at a few others.

Things I need to think about…

Naturally there are a ton of affiliates out there as I am finding out but having a little criterion before looking at these companies helps.  I came up with the following for myself with respect to CommerceCubes.

  1. Is this something that would benefit my audience?  Sounds like a pretty basic question but really if you are trying to sell snow in the Arctic or worse services to people who don’t want them then your returns will more then likely be less then taking the time to think and market products that can help your viewing audience
  2. Would I buy this service?  I wouldn’t recommend a product that I simply don’t believe in because that is not who I am.  Besides that simple fact, the internet has so many different companies offering different referrals it really is a free-for-all.
  3. Does the company I am affiliating with have services and goals that are in line with my own?  If a company that I am affiliating with is doing some things that I do not agree with I am probably not going to want to promote them.

So who am I looking at affiliating with?

FreshBooks – I just received an email back from this company after emailing them earlier today (I didn’t expect such a fast response).  They offer a rate of 25% per month up to one year for getting people to sign up with their service.

Campaign Monitor – I’ve tested and worked a little with this software over the last 6 months.  It’s pretty interesting and simply to use.  It was developed by an australian software company called FreshView.

I am still waiting to hear back from Campaign Monitor.  If you know of any other good affiliates you’ve heard from then please feel free to let me know as I am researching my options currently.
