What flavor of Entrepreneur are you?

I swear that the more the internet grows and changes the more our definitions change. Take the term “entrepreneur” for example; personally I believe the term is overused because people feel a need to label themselves with a title in business. But did you know that they’ve now got different types of entrepreneurs? I personally don’t put much thought into it but some people do. Have a look at the list I’ve compiled below…
- Serial Entrepreneur – These are the lifers of the entrepreneurial world who usually start a business, sell it off or move onto another venture after they’ve sold off their existing business and they do this throughout the course of their lifetime.
- Solo Entrepreneur (Solopreneur) - Someone that is first starting out and building a business all on their own.
- Parallel Entrepreneur – These are entrepreneurs that are involved in more then one business at the same time. Some people can focus on things like these but other cannot. It’s really whatever you are comfortable with.
- Inventors – These types of entrepreneurs are only considered entrepreneurs if they have an invention and a business model and plans.
- Insider Innovators – These are the guys who work in an industry for a number of years and find an opportunity to improve an existing service, product or business.
- Intrapreneurs – These are people that work inside of companies.
- Social Entrepreneurs – These are people who setup organizations and companies that do things differently but aren’t in it for the money.
- Raptors – People who start businesses with dishonest intentions and turn to criminal activities.

People seem to go crazy with titles they give themselves and lately that is becoming true more then ever before. With the media hyping “startups”, “entrepreneurs” and “Business”, it seems to be the coolest thing to be in business. I personally enjoy times like these because it honestly shows people the one-hit or no-hit wonders and creates true opportunity for those who know what they are doing.
After having a look through these I see a bit of myself in each of these but to be honest I see myself more so in one then any others. I am sure that as your reading this you’ll feel the same. Feel free to share your thoughts on this because I am sure that everyone out there feels differently about this. I know that I am not a “Raptor” because I have integrity in whatever I do. Probably the best term I’d give myself is “Solopreneur” because I personally think that while I want to have a team behind me we all start off as solopreneurs… it usually starts off with just one guy or girl and an idea!
I personally call myself “Lucas” or “Luc” because that’s my name and I’d much rather have no titles or boxes imposed around me.
Lucas
You can call me “Luc”

Solopreneur. I’m new to the entrepreneur world. I’m starting out providing medical device product development services on my own. I’ve thought about the other types of entrepreneurs listed but like the idea of flying solo. For my business, I will work closely with other entrpreneurs and businesses that provide complimentary services.

Hello Jon,
Sounds like a very niche area you are currently in… how did you first get your idea or get started? Personally if i grow a business i am looking to hold it long term… i am not into flipping businesses i create. I’d rather have one business i am really passionate about then flipping one after the other.
Tell me more about what you are doing. I am currently launching BizCandy.com, a marketing intelligence service that is focused on helping businesses understand their customers more through business intelligence using email as the transmission media to go out and collect data. Talk soon Jon,
Lucas
