What are “White Hat” & “Black Hat” SEO Techniques?
October 7, 2006 – 1:35 pmI am just getting into doing SEO on my respective sites, CommerceCubes (this site) and BizCandy (the new business I am launching). I’ve been reading a bit so far about SEO and becoming comfortable with it. I came across the terms “White Hat SEO” and “Black Hat SEO”. Considering I am no genius so far I figure this is as good a place as any to start my learning adventure in SEO.
Generic Definition of White Hat SEO Techniques
Things that are considered “White Hat” are considered “ethical”. They adhere to standards in place set by the major search engines.
Generic Definition of Brown or Grey Hat SEO Techniques
Naturally these techniques are considered “Borderline” in terms their ethics.
Generic Definition of Black Hat SEO Techniques
Things considered “Black Hat” are considered as “unethical”. They break the rules of the major search engines. From my understanding as well is that your site can get blacklisted by search engines for using techniques such as these.
Now again I am no pro (just yet) at SEO. I am in the learning stages of SEO but I am soaking it all up these days for the “White Hat” brand of SEO. I’ll make sure to share my finding on here in the coming months with anything of interest that I find and implement on my sites. In some up and coming articles I hope to share some common White Hat SEO techniques so stay tuned to CommerceCubes for more.
Happy SEO’ing! Keep it ethical!
