Frivole.com Project: Not all Hosting companies are created equal

When i first became involved in the Frivole.com project the thing that was annoying was trying to pull script files to my desktop as the server was on experienced outages. This was over the course of a weekend. I suggested to my client, purely out of my interest in seeing their project become a success that they switch hosting companies. They decided it would be too costly to switch over to another hosting provider so i said “okay, not a problem but this will probably persist”. Now that was two months ago roughly. We are now into another project on the same site and when i came online early this past saturday morning i saw the following error…

Warning: mysql_connect(): Access denied for user ‘frivoleuser’@’rosecrans.dreamhost.com’ (using password: YES) in /home/.cardamom/frivole/frivole.com/includes/functions/database.php on line 19 Unable to connect to database server!

Again on a weekend i was having to rebuild a database that i suspect was modified or reset by the hosting company in question… DreamHost.com. Having to rebuild a mySQL database and reconfiguring settings related to a database user that was in a sense erased or deleted is NOT my idea of fun and it was not fun for my client either. If you are looking for a hosting company please and i mean please look for outstanding reviews related to their service and excellent past customer experiences. Not all hosting companies are created equally. I use another hosting company (GoDaddy.com) to host this site and have never had any problems with it to date. They always answer questions quickly and effectively (usually in 24 to 48 hours) and on top of that they are competitively priced.

The next step in this may be the possibility of switching the site and business to a much more reliable hosting company which costs more time, resources and configuration. I just hope that you, the person reading this keeps this in mind when signing up for their first or next hosting plan. Afterall… Not all hosting plans are created equal!
