August 15, 2006 – 10:00 am

I just turned on the news this morning and found out that a bunch of dell laptop batteries are being recalled because they explode or catch fire. The affected models include…

  • Latitude: D410, D500, D505, D510, D520, D600, D610, D620, D800, D810

  • Inspiron: 500M, 510M, 600M, 700M, 6000, 6400, 8500, 8600, 9100, 9200, 9300, 9400, E1505, E1705

  • Dell Precision: M20, M60, M70, M90

  • XPS: XPS, XPS Gen2, XPS M170, XPS M1710

This is an excerpt from a reliable technology source that talks a bit more about this recall…

In the biggest recall in its 22-year history, Dell said on Monday it will recall 4.1 million notebook computer batteries because they could overheat and catch fire.

The world’s largest personal computer maker blamed the voluntary recall on lithium-ion batteries made by Sony, which Dell said could in rare cases produce smoke and catch fire.

Dell, which expected no financial impact from the recall, said it would keep Sony as a supplier of notebook batteries.

For them to recall that means some poor laptop owners met with an unfortunate end. Small business owners beware!  Feel free to check out your laptop battery at www.dellbatteryprogram.com.
