Hello… Is anyone there?
July 7, 2006 – 4:54 pmI’ve been working with a developer for the past week and a bit but it has been bad with getting back and giving feedback to me of any sort. Working in the development industry this is something that you face from time to time and I find that it is very easy to lose faith in developers. I personally try to give them the benefit of the doubt because I realize that some developers need there own space.
For the developers listening out there, here are some things that you can do to ensure that you keep your clients coming back
Listen to them – I know that sounds like something really simple to do but at times it is a rare gift. Most people are concerned when hiring a developer about there coding skills solely and while those are important communication is always an asset in an industry that sometimes lacks it
Update your customers – Keep your customer in the loop. This goes back to listening but expands on the point because customers (especially in a service field) need to feel as though they are being heard and that progress is being made.
Set boundaries with your customers – Developers are people too. Let’s say you know you are going to be out of town for the next two days. Take a little time to tell your customers that you are going out of town… most won’t mind and a few will but at least they know what is going on.
It’s funny, in this day in age, with will these communication tools people have such problems communicating in a clear and effective matter. Ironic isn’t is it?
